Hormones wreaking havoc?
We know that the peri and post menopause period can be tough on our delicate parts. From being so dry that sex is like 1000 papercuts all at once through to lacking any sensation - you might as well be rubbing your elbow! Here are our suggestions to help make sex feel like it used to:
1) Seek medical input
Firstly, we'd recommend every woman go have a chat to their health professional to look at what options are out there to assist. Localised estrogen cream, for example, can make a big difference for bringing back the stretch and moisture.
2) Lubricate!
In terms of what else you can do, sometimes it can be as simple as switching up your lubricant to see what suits your body best. We have oil-based, water-based and silicone lubricants available and it really does come down to personal preference.
Some people like the lightness of water-based lubricants whereas others prefer the thicker oil-based options for their moisturising effect. Silicone is a good choice for longer sessions as it is long lasting and therefore tends to not need reapplying (note, however, that silicone shouldn't be used with standard silicone toys, only the love.not war range that we stock).
3) Explore new pathways
When it comes to sensation, during this phase it can feel like it takes a lot more work to get near the finish line. This is particularly frustrating for her but can also have an impact on the partner who wants sex to be enjoyable for both parties. This is where a toy could help. Perhaps you haven't used any toys before or maybe it was something you used to indulge in previously (before the stress of kids, work commitments, caring for elderly parents etc). Opening up your mind to the use of toys solo or with a partner could bring a fast track to heightened sensation.
We have collections to suit all kinds of preferences from air pressure clitoral suction toys that mimic oral sex through to g-spot vibrators or glass dildos that you can heat or cool. Or you could try a vibrating cock ring which helps to keep him hard while it vibrates against the clitoris.
